Auror
38 Ethel Street, Auckland, 1025, New Zealand
Overview
Auror offers a retail crime reporting and intelligence platform that helps retailers detect, report, and prevent theft and other crimes. The platform collects and analyzes data from video surveillance, self-checkout AI, and in-store alerts. Its system is used by over 150,000 retail users across 45,000 stores globally, including Coles, Woolworths, Bunnings, Marks & Spencer and BP. Auror raised NZ$82.0M in a Series C to support its growth and R&D plans. The company intends to use the funds to expand in North America and the UK and to drive further research and development. Investors leading the round include Axon Enterprise, W23 Global and Reinventure, with support from existing investors. Auror offers a crime intelligence platform used by frontline store employees, headquarters staff and police to prevent organized crime, reduce shrink and make store employees safer. The company was founded nine years ago by Phil Thomson, Tom Batterbury and James Corbett and honed its offering in New Zealand, capturing over 80% of retailers by spend there before expanding to Australia and the US. Auror takes a privacy-by-design approach, avoiding CCTV and live facial recognition while enabling structured incident reporting and secure data sharing. Its product enables retailer-to-retailer collaboration and aggregates data for police to prioritize investigations. Named customers include Walmart, Woolworths, Coles, The Warehouse and Z Energy, and customer feedback in the investment notes is highly enthusiastic. The combination of easy frontline reporting, trusted sharing and police aggregation creates multiple layers of network effects and a flywheel that increases reporting and investigative effectiveness as Auror expands into the US.
