Overview
Aurora Insight offers a cloud-based, data-as-a-service platform that provides a dynamic, near-real-time global map of wireless connectivity and signal quality across multiple spectrum bands. The product combines AI with sensor data gathered from satellites, vehicles, buildings, aircraft and other objects to monitor spectrum performance. The company built an initial testing “bunker” before rolling the system out at scale and says its objective is to map the entire planet’s radio waves. Aurora aims to measure multiple kinds of spectrum simultaneously to serve telecom operators as well as a broader set of application and service developers building on 5G and other wireless technologies. The startup highlights specific utility for challenging 5G phenomena such as massive MIMO, beamforming and high-frequency operation. While in stealth it worked with at least one drone operator and says some telcos have been testing the system. Financially, Aurora has raised $18 million in aggregate since its 2016 founding, covering both seed and Series A funding.
