baCta
10 rue Vauquelin, Paris, Ile-de-France, 75005, France
Overview
baCta develops baCtaForge, a strain-engineering platform that combines synthetic biology, robotics and generative AI to design microorganisms that efficiently produce industrial molecules. The system applies bio-based reinforcement learning to uncover genomic regions and regulatory pathways typically missed by conventional methods, cutting development time and cost. The company’s first commercial target is the antioxidant astaxanthin, whose production it is scaling from pilot to commercial volumes through a partnership with a French industrial player. By replacing petrochemical synthesis and limited natural extraction with precision fermentation, baCta addresses cost, seasonality and supply-chain risks in ingredient manufacturing. Proceeds from its latest financing will fund industrial scale-up, validation of manufacturing processes, and expansion of the baCtaForge platform to additional high-value molecules. Founded by Mathieu Nohet and Marie Rouquette, the company positions itself as an enabler of sustainable, large-scale bioproduction.
