Baffle

3979 Freedom Circle, Suite 970, Santa Clara, CA, 95054, United States

Overview

Baffle provides a "security mesh" that keeps data encrypted while it is processed by databases and applications, de‑identifying sensitive data with no claimed performance impact. The company supports AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure and is used across financial services, healthcare, retail, industrial IoT and government. Baffle says it protects more than 100 billion records and stores records for the top five global financial services companies and five of the top 25 global companies. Founded in 2015, the startup aims to make data breaches irrelevant by ensuring data remains unavailable and unusable to attackers even if systems are compromised. It reports threefold revenue growth over the past year and plans to use new funding to meet market demand, invest in product development, and double headcount from 25 to 50 within 12 months. Baffle provides the BaffleManager™ Application Data Protection Service, which integrates at the SQL layer to constrain application access to sensitive data and employs AES 256-bit encryption. The service unifies enhanced data access monitoring and access control to enable secure computing for cloud applications. BaffleManager is available for deployment on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace and Microsoft Azure Marketplace and offers a free 90-day trial. The company intends to use the funds to accelerate product development across additional databases and to expand sales and marketing efforts. Led by co-founder and CEO Ameesh Divatia, Baffle emphasizes preventing the types of attacks that have caused recent high-profile data breaches. The article does not disclose operating metrics or revenue figures. Baffle provides an end-to-end data encryption platform that protects data at all times — from production through processing — including while data is in use. Its platform keeps data encrypted when stored on-premise or in the cloud and even when processed by databases and applications. The solution is intended to allow organizations in media, financial services, healthcare and other sectors to migrate data stores to the cloud without exposing plaintext. The company had just released the platform for early access at the time of the announcement. Baffle closed a $3M funding round and said it will use the proceeds to continue developing the platform. The company is based in Santa Clara, California.
