Overview
Basis builds the B1 multi-sensor wristwatch that tracks heart rate, perspiration, skin temperature, accelerometry and other signals and pairs that hardware with software to crunch multi-sensor data into actionable health insights. The company plans to become a device-agnostic health-data hub so complementary devices and apps can contribute data and improve recommendations. Basis says its analytics aim to produce behavior-change suggestions that keep users engaged where single-sensor trackers fall short. The company hired Ethan Fassett to lead platform efforts and intends to use new funding to accelerate platform development and manufacturing. Basis had been back-ordered with a "high five-digits" waiting list and has begun openly selling the B1 watch for $199. Financially, the company has accumulated $32.3 million in venture capital to date following the latest raise. Basis produces a $200 sensor-rich wristwatch and companion web dashboard that tracks heart rate from the wrist, activity, skin temperature, calories burned and sleep. The product pairs hardware with a “Healthy Habits” analytics platform aimed at driving sustained user engagement. After a public launch in November the company sold out its first batch and its pre-order wait list grew well into the five-digit range. Basis is working to ramp production, distribution and hiring across hardware, cloud service and software teams. The company is developing an Android app due to launch later this month, with an iOS app to follow. Basis has raised fresh capital to accelerate these plans and expand weekly shipments.
