Beam is a Singaporean shared micromobility operator that provides e-scooters and e-bikes. The company currently operates in 35 cities across Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand and plans to expand into Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Turkey. Beam is developing a fifth-generation Saturn e-scooter that will include an updated Micromobility Augmented Riding Safety (MARS) platform and an onboard AI camera called Beam Pedestrian Shield, developed with Drover AI. The Saturn will feature 12-inch wheels, hydraulic suspension and fully swappable batteries with a quoted 110 km riding range; Beam plans to begin rolling it out in the second half of the year and to scale onboard cameras by Q3. Beam also plans to add an e-moped called the Pluto in the second half of the year and expects e-mopeds to comprise up to one-third of its fleet over the next two years. Financially, Beam says its revenue has grown 15x since 2020 and the company has raised a total of $135 million to date following the recent Series B. Beam builds shared electric scooters and virtual docking systems for micromobility fleets. Its Beam Saturn Generation 3 scooter is custom-built for sharing, with swappable batteries, an aviation-grade aluminium frame, 25cm tubeless safety tyres, high-grip rear-wheel drive, and dual mechanical and electronic braking. Beam is rolling the scooter out in Auckland and will be in Christchurch soon, and plans broader deployment across APAC including Korea, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. Rather than a fully dockless model, Beam is introducing a “virtual docked” model that incentivises riders to park in predetermined spots via the Beam mobile app to reduce scattered scooters and minimise vehicle losses. The company plans to expand its virtual docking systems and grow its APAC fleet while enhancing its Beam Safe Academy with online tools and expanded real-world rider training. Beam has implemented stringent cleaning and operations practices to limit virus transmission and is Climate Neutral Certified after measuring and offsetting its 2019 carbon emissions.
