Big Akwa
Strandgatan 1, Härnösand, Vasternorrlands Lan, 87145, Sweden
Overview
Big Akwa is developing a land-based aquaculture facility in Alby Industrial Park, Ånge Municipality, designed to produce up to 6,000 tons of rainbow trout annually. The project follows an industrial symbiosis model that recycles waste streams from both fish farming and adjacent industries, and it will be co-located with a hydrogen plant to support a circular production loop. The company already holds 25-year operational and water permits for the site and aims to begin construction once the current planning phase is complete, targeting initial production in 2028 and full capacity by 2029. To fund the detailed engineering phase, Big Akwa received SEK 11 million (≈€1 million) in regional business support covering 50 % of the SEK 22 million engineering budget. Earlier, in December, the firm raised SEK 7.85 million through a directed share issue. The fresh capital enables Big Akwa to finalize its engineering work and keep the project on track for its production timeline. The company positions itself at the intersection of sustainable aquaculture and clean-tech, leveraging circular resource flows to reduce environmental impact.
