Overview
ALMI Invest is a venture capital company which invests in Swedish companies with exciting, scalable business models and motivated entrepreneurs. ALMI Invest consists of eight regionally based venture capital funds, all with local offices and experienced local investment managers. We manage a total of SEK 1 billion. Unlike most venture capitalists, we can invest in a wide range of businesses. A strong team of entrepreneurs, a scalable business model and an initial revenue stream are more important than the line of business when we invest. Our first, initial investment would typically be SEK 2-4 million. During the lifetime of an investment, sums of up to SEK 10 million can be ventured. We always syndicate with an investment partner (another venture capitalist or angel investor) from Sweden or otherwise which means that we can take a maximum of 50 percent of an investment round. ALMI Invest was founded in 2009 by ALMI Fretagspartner together with regional investors. Half of our capital comes from European Union structural funds, which accounts for an investment of SEK 500 million. The other 50 per cent comes from regional investors and ALMI Fretagspartner.

Solinide Photonics develops silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits and microcomb sources that can generate dozens of precise wavelengths from a single chip to enable higher-bandwidth, lower-power optical interconnects. The company targets AI data centres and telecommunications applications where moving large volumes of data between processors requires energy-efficient, high-capacity links. Solinide has demonstrated that its microcomb technology can meet the performance required for data-centre links and has integrated it into a rack-mounted product. As a spin-out from Chalmers University of Technology, the company is working toward commercial readiness, scalable manufacturing and real-world deployment. Current plans include expanding engineering and commercial teams, enhancing in-house prototyping and deepening partnerships with industry players. The recent €4 million seed raise is intended to fund these efforts and prepare the technology for manufacturing in Europe.

Aligned Bio has developed a nanowire-based sensing platform designed to detect individual molecules with high sensitivity, with claims of read lengths of more than 1,000 bases using sequencing-by-synthesis reagents and up to 200x higher immunoassay sensitivity than conventional approaches. The technology originates from research at Lund University and Chalmers University of Technology and is designed for integration with industry-standard laboratory equipment and workflows. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Lund, the company is transitioning from research to commercialization and plans to engage partners in the sequencing and proteomics industries. Recent financing of $3.6 million led by LMK will be used to scale nanowire consumable manufacturing and support commercial expansion. Pete Corish joined as CEO in June to lead commercialization efforts and partner discussions over the next six to twelve months. The company positions its platform as offering potential cost reductions and performance improvements for diagnostics, sequencing and proteomics applications.

Xaga Surgical’s core product is a proprietary prostate biopsy device with a redesigned needle architecture that clinical studies indicate can reduce bacterial transmission by up to 96% and provide a more stable trajectory during tissue sampling. The company received FDA 510(k) clearance for the device and it is already being used by clinicians at institutions such as the Penn State College of Medicine. Xaga was founded by urologist Dr. Andreas Forsvall, who developed the technology based on clinical shortcomings he observed. Xaga reports that traditional biopsy needles contribute to complications in roughly 3% of procedures globally, and its device aims to lower those risks while improving diagnostic accuracy. The company recently raised 17 million SEK (≈€1.6M) to scale manufacturing and commercial operations in the U.S., prepare for CE marking in Europe, and pursue a broader portfolio of infection-prevention technologies for needle-based procedures.
