Overview
Founded in 2022, BiomEdit is an animal-health biotechnology company that harnesses the microbiome, synthetic biology, and artificial intelligence to create next-generation solutions for livestock and companion animals. Its current flagship effort is the Rumen Digital Twin, a generative AI foundation model that will analyze data from more than 20,000 cattle across 25+ countries to pinpoint the most effective methane-mitigation and productivity strategies. The company is also advancing microbiome-based feed additives aimed at cutting enteric methane in cattle, a program launched with a $4.5 million Gates Foundation grant in 2023. BiomEdit plans to offer an open-access, cloud platform allowing researchers and nonprofits to simulate interventions and fine-tune feed or microbiome approaches, while retaining commercial licensing pathways. Backers include venture investors Anterra Capital, Viking Global, Nutreco, AgriZeroNZ, Elevate and Betagro Ventures. The new Bezos Earth Fund award further bolsters the firm’s non-dilutive funding base, complementing its venture backing and positioning it as a leader in climate-smart animal agriculture.
