Overview
Founded in 2023 by Hitesh Rafalia and Nisa Mehreen, Cellarim Labs is a biotechnology startup focused on alternative production methods for cosmetic bioactives. Its core innovation is a cell-free, enzyme-driven manufacturing platform that replaces traditional fermentation and chemical synthesis, turning renewable bio-waste into high-specification ingredients. The company has already commercialised NeuHyal™, a Hyaluronic Acid portfolio spanning 10 kDa to 5000 kDa, developed within a single year for skincare, cosmetic, and related applications. To speed new ingredient development, Cellarim is also building an AI-driven biofoundry where partner brands can submit target molecules for rapid design, testing, and production. By tackling supply volatility, purity variability, and import dependence, the startup aims to give brands a reliable, cost-effective source of bioactives. Its initial commercial focus is the global Hyaluronic Acid market, estimated at $9 billion. Proceeds from its recent seed funding will support a pilot-scale biomanufacturing facility, scale NeuHyal™ production, and expand B2B ingredient supply channels.
