City Detect

2627 10th Ave Suite 131, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35401, United States

Overview

Founded in 2021, City Detect equips city-owned vehicles such as garbage trucks and street sweepers with cameras that capture street-level imagery, which its patented computer-vision system analyzes to flag graffiti, illegal dumping, litter, structural roof damage, and other code-related problems. The platform automatically blurs faces and license plates, can distinguish between street art and vandalism, and helps officials prioritize remediation without relying on labor-intensive manual inspections. Operating in at least 17 U.S. cities, including Dallas and Miami, the company claims its AI can review thousands of buildings per week compared with roughly 50 for traditional human inspections. City Detect is SOC 2 Type II compliant, a member of the GovAI Coalition, and has published a Responsible AI policy to guide its work with municipalities. The firm has raised $15 million to date and plans to use new capital to hire additional engineers, enhance its storm-damage detection capabilities, and expand to more U.S. cities. CEO and co-founder Gavin Baum-Blake leads the company’s growth and technology strategy.
