Overview
Galway-based CitySwift develops an AI- and ML-driven platform that predicts journey times and passenger demand to optimise routing for transportation authorities and operators. The company is described in the article as a "Waze for public transportation." CitySwift reports 150% customer-base growth in the last 12 months and now services transport networks in major UK cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, and across Wales. The latest investment will be used to further develop the platform and to expand the team. The company aims to continue delivering transport data products and services for both authorities and operators. CitySwift has now raised a total of €14 million. CitySwift operates a Mobility Intelligence as a Service platform that gives bus network providers always-on insights to operate and adapt bus networks. The system uses AI and machine learning to accurately predict journey times and passenger demand and to create optimised timetables that account for traffic, events and hundreds of external factors. The platform aims to ensure on-time performance and increased passenger satisfaction, while customisable management dashboards deliver business intelligence and enable tracking of KPIs. Led by CEO Brian O'Rourke, CitySwift works with operators and public-sector authorities globally. The company is based in Galway, Ireland. CitySwift raised €5m in a Series A round and intends to use the funds to further expand its platform. CitySwift operates a SaaS data engine that augments and integrates with existing bus technology systems to provide network performance insights and accelerated network planning. The platform uses big data and machine learning to visualise city mobility data, generate operational plans and run schedule simulations that orchestrate passenger and vehicle movements. Its latest passenger-facing solution is an AI-powered bus capacity checker that predicts bus loadings up to two weeks in advance, showing colour-coded stop-by-stop crowding similar to Google Maps. The company plans to use the new funding to speed product development and to hire 25 new positions across commercial and technical roles over the next twelve months. Hiring will be in Ireland and remote, covering business development, customer success, product, data science and engineering, to accelerate expansion in the European market where CitySwift already works with public authorities. The company is led by CEO Brian O’Rourke and was founded in 2016.
