Classcraft provides educators with tools that combine games, stories and time-tested pedagogy to motivate K-12 students and strengthen student-teacher connections. Its core product gamifies classroom management and learning to make education more engaging and meaningful. Founded in 2013 by brothers Shawn and Devin Young and their father, Lauren Young, the company operates from Quebec and New York City. Classcraft is available via Google’s App Hub and Classcraft.com and is a Google for Education Premier Partner. At the time of the announcement it was serving more than 6 million students and educators across more than 160 countries, available in 11 languages, and is a certified B Corporation. The company closed a $7.5M Series A (CA$10M) to continue expanding operations and broaden its business reach. Classcraft builds a role-playing game platform that turns the school experience into a year-long game to enhance classroom management, augment existing curriculum, and gamify Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The product originated in 2013 when high school teacher Shawn Young created a classroom RPG; he later founded the company with his brother Devin and their father. Classcraft is used in 75 countries, including over 20,000 U.S. schools, and reaches more than 2.5 million student users worldwide. The company cites research showing classrooms using Classcraft saw an increase in student achievement of more than 8 percent over a school year. Classcraft is integrated with Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams and is a certified Google Cloud Technology Partner. With the new funding, the company plans to build a richer gaming ecosystem through partnerships and self-paced, personalized learning and to scale the platform further.
