Climate Edge is a UK-based B2B agtech startup that delivers tailored agronomic information to smallholder farmers via SMS and interactive voice response. The platform sends actionable alerts on soil conditions, tailored fertilizer plans, cropping calendars, market access and prices, and supplies data to financial providers to help assess farmer risk. The company targets smallholders with limited internet access in East Africa, notably Kenya and Tanzania, and cites mobile payment systems like MPesa as an enabler. Founders James Alden and Paul Baranowski developed the approach after consulting across Latin America, Southeast Asia and East Africa and identifying gaps in information transfer. Climate Edge has worked with over 700 organizations in the agricultural value chain and says it has delivered support to more than 150,000 farmers. The startup recently closed a $500,000 seed round from Regenerate Ventures to support continued deployment and scaling in developing markets.
