  • SugaROx

    Participated · Seed · Aug 2025

SugaROx develops next-generation crop biostimulants centered on a proprietary form of the natural plant sugar trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P), using patented technology from the University of Oxford and Rothamsted Research. Its platform enables delivery of natural molecules that regulate intracellular pathways in plants via standard agronomic practices. The company has scaled synthesis from laboratory to a pilot facility in the UK and has extended field testing across multiple markets. SugaROx plans to expand field trials to validate performance, generate regulatory data, and pursue commercial launches in the UK, EU and US. Financially, the company recently closed a £2.5M Series A investment with prior seed backing of £400k from The Mosaic Company in 2025. The company is led by CEO Mark Robbins.

  • Green Bioactives

    Participated · Seed · Dec 2022

Green Bioactives raised £2.6M in Seed financing led by Eos Advisory LLP, with participation from Regenerate Ventures’ Agtech Fund, Milltrust International Group, and Scottish Enterprise. Andrew Durkie, Partner at Eos, will join the company's board. The company plans to use the funds to expand its management, production, and research teams and to demonstrate its biomanufacturing approach at larger scale. Green Bioactives leverages plant vascular stem cells to build a platform for sustainable biomanufacturing of plant biomolecules for commercial applications in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, and agricultural industries. Its capabilities span initial isolation of bioactive-producing plant cells through to supply of the final purified product, aiming to provide improved and sustainable access to the diverse library of plant bioactives. Founded in 2020 and based at the Roslin Innovation Centre in Edinburgh, the company is working with several world-leading partners—including a multinational consumer goods company, a multinational biotechnology company, and a global agricultural solutions company—to produce high-value bioactives that cannot be readily produced sustainably or economically using alternative approaches.

  • Climate Edge

    Led · Seed · May 2022

Climate Edge is a UK-based B2B agtech startup that delivers tailored agronomic information to smallholder farmers via SMS and interactive voice response. The platform sends actionable alerts on soil conditions, tailored fertilizer plans, cropping calendars, market access and prices, and supplies data to financial providers to help assess farmer risk. The company targets smallholders with limited internet access in East Africa, notably Kenya and Tanzania, and cites mobile payment systems like MPesa as an enabler. Founders James Alden and Paul Baranowski developed the approach after consulting across Latin America, Southeast Asia and East Africa and identifying gaps in information transfer. Climate Edge has worked with over 700 organizations in the agricultural value chain and says it has delivered support to more than 150,000 farmers. The startup recently closed a $500,000 seed round from Regenerate Ventures to support continued deployment and scaling in developing markets.
