Clockwork Labs is developing a cross-platform community sandbox MMORPG that emphasizes social interaction, cooperation, building, crafting, role-playing, and non-combat roles while not ruling out combat. The studio favors player-created worlds and player-driven mechanics to reduce handcrafted content, while keeping balance rather than going fully open like Roblox or Minecraft. Cofounders Tyler Cloutier and Alessandro Asoni started the studio in 2019 and have been testing prototypes since late 2019. The company is nominally headquartered in San Francisco but operates fully remote, with 14 employees across North America, Europe, and South America. The team includes talent from Machine Zone, Ubisoft, Kakao Games, Apple, and Bloomberg. The studio is hiring and has raised $4.3M from strategic and angel backers.
