CloudPassage is a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a security automation platform for the cloud. It created Halo, a security automation platform purpose-built for the cloud that delivers security and compliance for large-scale, distributed environments. Halo integrates with cloud and security technologies such as VMware, Rackspace, Amazon Web Services, RightScale, Splunk and HP ArcSight. The company currently protects more than 400 production cloud application deployments, including some Fortune 1000 enterprises. CloudPassage closed a $25.5M Series C that brought total capital raised to $53M and plans to use the funds to expand sales and marketing. The company is led by CEO Carson Sweet. CloudPassage develops cloud server security and compliance software specifically built for elastic, dynamic cloud environments. Its core product, Halo, combines an ultra-lightweight guest VM software component with an elastic compute grid optimized for security operations and automates multiple server security functions. Halo is designed to provide security in public cloud hosting where consistent physical location, network control and perimeter security are not guaranteed and can be deployed in minutes. The company has launched a commercial product and reported 70% growth in client uptake for the first two months of 2012 versus the prior year; customers include Foursquare. CloudPassage has raised a total of $20.5M in funding and says it will use the new capital to expand market penetration of Halo. CEO and co-founder Carson Sweet describes the company as steadily growing, including uptake from Windows customers moving to the cloud. The company only recently launched its software and is already being used by well-known clients such as Foursquare and other SaaS hosts with dynamic server needs.
