New capital will be used to scale go-to-market efforts with a focus on Fortune 500 adoption and to invest in strategic partnerships to accelerate platform growth. Founded by Yevgeny Pats, CloudQuery positions itself as the cloud governance backbone for modern enterprises. CloudQuery is an open-source, SQL-based tool that provides visibility into cloud infrastructure resources. It ingests data from the Big Three cloud vendors (Amazon, Microsoft and Google) and layers on integrations with adjacent SaaS like Datadog and Okta. Users apply the data for security, compliance and cost-tracking use cases, including finding over-provisioned or “zombie” resources and building rule-based alerts. The product has enterprise traction: 20 companies with at least 1,000 employees use CloudQuery. The company operates as an open platform that allows external developers to contribute integrations to the official integrations. CloudQuery builds an open source cloud assets inventory tool powered by SQL to help developers, DevOps engineers and SREs understand multi-cloud infrastructure. Founder and CEO Yevgeny Pats started the project after selling his previous startup Fuzzit to GitLab and encountering visibility challenges across clouds. The tool launched nine months ago and was released on GitHub earlier this year, quickly gaining adoption from companies including Bloomberg, Salesforce and Zendesk. CloudQuery is fully remote and currently has 11 employees with plans to grow to 14 by the first quarter of next year. Pats intends to prioritize building the open source community first, then offer a SaaS product to simplify usage and provide enterprise features. The company raised a $3.5M seed round to double down on development and expand the open source project.
