CodeGuard offers a free website backup and monitoring service that lets site owners visually browse and restore prior versions via its “Time Machine.” The service uses differential backup to store only changes between versions, minimizing storage and enabling detailed change tracking and alerts when modifications are detected. CodeGuard provides integrations and plugins for cPanel and WordPress, supports FTP/SFTP and MySQL backups, and has struck partnerships with hosting and web service providers such as Parallels, CloudFlare, A Small Orange, HostDime, HostMySite, WebHostingBuzz and NameCheap. Its backend runs on Amazon EC2 and S3 for scalability and redundancy, and the company reported observing 20 million file changes in recent weeks. Pricing is pay-as-you-go: free until a 2GB limit, then an upgrade at $10/month billed yearly, with a $25 option to access all backups for 72 hours. With new funding, CodeGuard is ramping its team, expanding integrations, and plans to offer Tumblr backup next quarter along with support for other content management systems. CodeGuard provides website protection and monitoring via a virtual version-control system that stores site data in the cloud. The service creates hourly or daily backups so users can see which files have changed and quickly revert to the last known clean version after hacks or suspicious changes. CodeGuard detects hacking and notifies site owners before malware spreads, links are pirated, or sites act as parasitic hosts for spammers. The product is designed to be usable by owners with little technical experience. CodeGuard launched at TechCrunch Disrupt last week and was the audience choice winner from Startup Alley. Financially, the company has announced a $500,000 funding round from Imlay Investments.
