COI Energy
802 East Whiting Street, Tampa, FL, 33602, United States
Overview
COI Energy has developed a patented energy gateway and software platform that taps into a building’s existing control and SCADA systems to capture usage data and predict true electricity needs up to 90 days in advance. When surplus capacity is identified, the firm’s marketplace enables one business to sell that unused allotment to another, with COI paying the seller and billing the buyer. The company currently serves five pilot customers—each managing at least 50 buildings—and is active in California, Florida, Massachusetts, and New York, while maintaining a growing waitlist. Early revenues are already flowing from these pilots, validating demand for its capacity-sharing model. Future plans include becoming a designated solution provider for Switzerland’s forthcoming nationwide energy-sharing policy in 2026. COI also earmarks 1% of client savings for “Kilowatt for Good,” which funds nonprofits that assist low-income households with energy bills and efficiency upgrades. The business is led by founder and CEO SaLisa Berrien, whose 25-year utility career informs the company’s regulatory and technical strategy.
