Kachuwa Impact Fund is an investment cooperative and public benefit corporation focused on owning and operating “impact real estate” and investing in privately-held “impact companies. Kachuwa is a cooperative corporation formed under Colorado law. A cooperative corporation is one that is formed for the benefit of its members, provides for one vote per member (regardless of the amount of their investment), and distributes profits on the basis of “patronage” – which generally means the amount of business done with the cooperative. As a cooperative, Kachuwa is democratically owned and controlled by its members. By design, at least 60% of Kachuwa’s assets are real estate and no more than 40% of its assets are investments.

  • COI Energy

    Participated · Seed · Oct 2025

COI Energy has developed a patented energy gateway and software platform that taps into a building’s existing control and SCADA systems to capture usage data and predict true electricity needs up to 90 days in advance. When surplus capacity is identified, the firm’s marketplace enables one business to sell that unused allotment to another, with COI paying the seller and billing the buyer. The company currently serves five pilot customers—each managing at least 50 buildings—and is active in California, Florida, Massachusetts, and New York, while maintaining a growing waitlist. Early revenues are already flowing from these pilots, validating demand for its capacity-sharing model. Future plans include becoming a designated solution provider for Switzerland’s forthcoming nationwide energy-sharing policy in 2026. COI also earmarks 1% of client savings for “Kilowatt for Good,” which funds nonprofits that assist low-income households with energy bills and efficiency upgrades. The business is led by founder and CEO SaLisa Berrien, whose 25-year utility career informs the company’s regulatory and technical strategy.

  • De Oro Devices

    Participated · Seed · Jun 2022

De Oro’s core product, the NexStride, is a self-contained, attachable gadget that provides two external cues — a metronome-like ding and a laser-projected line — to trigger alternate neural pathways and reduce freezing in people with Parkinson’s. The unit mounts to a walker or cane with a stretchy loop and includes a corded controller and hardware dials to set volume, tempo, and laser position. The company chose a manual operation model after user and clinician feedback, and customer polls and clinical referrals indicate improved confidence and mobility among users. NexStride competes with devices like the U-Step but differentiates on portability and the ability to attach to users’ preferred mobility aids; De Oro keeps manufacturing in the U.S., which raises costs. The retail price is $500 and is not yet broadly covered by insurance, though veterans can obtain units through the VA and the Parkinson’s Wellness Fund may cover partial or full costs for some buyers. De Oro plans to use recent funding to scale operations and expand distribution so more people can access the device.
