Comprimato is a Brno-based provider of JPEG2000 GPU-based compression solutions. Its core product is a GPU-accelerated JPEG2000 compression offering aimed primarily at the digital cinema market. The company supplies solutions to clients including Digimetrics and Stanford University. Founded by Jiri Matela as a spin-off from Prague-based research institute CESNET, Comprimato is also in negotiations with major global players in fields including military and health applications. Comprimato raised €1m in funding and intends to use the proceeds to expand both sales and its technology. Comprimato has developed a JPEG2000 compression solution that runs on mainstream graphics processing units to deliver fast encoding. The company is a spin-off from the Prague-based research institute CESNET and is headquartered in Brno’s South Moravian Innovation Centre. It was co-founded by Jiri Matela (CEO) and Michal Krsek (Director of Business Development). Comprimato targets applications of JPEG2000 across digital cinema, film post production, broadcasting, eHealth, satellite imagery and government use cases. In October 2013 the company raised €200k in seed funding. The firm intends to use the funds to expand international sales and broaden its product offering, commercializing its GPU JPEG2000 technology for UHD and professional imaging workflows.
