Overview

Coorpacademy operates an online corporate education platform that mixes original content with lessons developed by corporate partners and third parties, augmented by social dynamics and gamification. The platform is accessible across devices so learners can stop and start lessons when convenient. Launched in 2013 by former Google France executives Jean-Marc Tassetto and Arnauld Mitre alongside serial entrepreneur Frédérick Benichou, the company is based in Paris. Coorpacademy has 44 employees and serves corporate clients including Nespresso; about half of actual users are in the United States due to large international partners. The company plans to use the new funding to expand across Europe and develop new content partnerships. Financially, it raised an $11 million venture round and has raised a total of $14.5 million in venture capital to date. Coorpacademy designs a SaaS platform delivering corporate MOOCs (COOCs) that use gamification, collaborative learning and flipped-pedagogy to engage employees. The company was founded in 2013 and developed its R&D program on the EPFL campus in Lausanne, working with researchers such as Pierre Dillenbourg and CEDE. Its platform targets enterprise customers (including Fortune 500 and CAC 40 firms) and claims pricing roughly ten times lower than traditional training providers. Coorpacademy reports a community of more than 200,000 paying learners and is described in the article as already profitable. The company plans to use the new funding to accelerate growth, recruit staff, expand internationally (a major 2015 strategic axis) and invest in new formats and platform development. Investor support is also intended to strengthen its ties with EPFL and its pedagogical research partners.
