DBOS, Inc.
68 Harrison Ave Ste 605 PMB 66880, Boston, MA, 02111-1929, United States
Overview
DBOS is the product of a three-year joint Stanford–MIT research project led by database pioneer Mike Stonebraker, who serves as co-founder and CTO. The company’s core offering flips the traditional stack by implementing OS-level services (file, scheduling, messaging) inside a database and exposing them via SQL. Current product pieces include an open-source SDK for local development, an auto-scaling serverless cloud for deployment, and a time-travel debugger that can move the OS state backward and forward. DBOS has tested the approach at a major bank and a consumer food company and reports performance competitive with conventional implementations. The startup is positioning the technology for greenfield applications and select new projects at established companies rather than wholesale replatforming. The team is small (about eight engineers) and the company formally launched after the research phase last year.
