Deno develops a secure runtime for JavaScript, TypeScript and WebAssembly built in Rust on the V8 engine. Its commercial product, Deno Deploy, is a fully managed service running on a network with 33 regions worldwide. The company contributes to the open-source Deno project, which has tens of thousands of weekly active users on GitHub, and maintains a full-time engineering team. CEO Ryan Dahl says the company aims to broaden JavaScript use outside the browser and optimize for serverless and edge computing, positioning Deno against Cloudflare Workers, Vercel, Netlify and Fastly. Deno currently has 17 employees and plans to hire 10 more by next year. The company raised a $21M Series A to build out Deno Deploy, expand marketing operations, and explore new lines of business.
