Overview

Eclipse Labs is developing the first Ethereum layer-2 that leverages the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) to combine Solana-grade execution performance with Ethereum liquidity and settlement. The protocol integrates components from the modular stack, citing Celestia and RISC Zero advances to enable fast proving and improved data availability. Since announcing its mainnet architecture in September 2023, Eclipse has released Devnet and Testnet versions and expects leading dApps from both Solana and Ethereum ecosystems to deploy to Mainnet. The team includes founder Neel Somani (ex-Citadel quant), Vijay Chetty (former Uniswap and dYdX Head of BD and Growth), and David Lin (former VP of Engineering at Discreet Labs). Eclipse plans a Q2 Mainnet launch and is establishing ecosystem programs including grants, hackathons, accelerators, engineering and marketing support, and community events. Financially, the company has raised $50M in the current Series A, bringing total capital raised to $65M. Eclipse builds a customizable modular rollup layer that lets developers deploy their own trust‑minimized app chains powered by the Solana virtual machine. The product aims to maximize throughput while allowing teams to choose tradeoffs among speed, decentralization, and cost. Eclipse plans to support Move in the future and will deploy a public testnet in early 2023 within the Celestia ecosystem. The company has formed partnerships with Celestia, EigenLayer, Oasis Labs, Polygon, Cosmos, and NEAR and received a development grant from the Solana Foundation. Eclipse launched as a portfolio company of Anagram and was founded in 2022 in San Francisco by Neel Somani and Sam Thapaliya. The recently raised funding will be used to grow the ecosystem, attract Rust engineers, and expand the business development team.
