electroCore develops gammaCore, a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) therapy targeting primary headache disorders (migraine and cluster headache) and related comorbidities. The company received FDA de novo clearance in April for gammaCore’s acute treatment of episodic cluster headache and has filed for a 510(k) label expansion for acute migraine. The company describes the nVNS mechanism as activation of specific vagus nerve fibers that release inhibitory neurotransmitters and reduce overexpression of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate.
