  electroCore develops gammaCore, a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) therapy targeting primary headache disorders (migraine and cluster headache) and related comorbidities. The company received FDA de novo clearance in April for gammaCore’s acute treatment of episodic cluster headache and has filed for a 510(k) label expansion for acute migraine. Proceeds from its most recent financing will support commercial launch and scientific expansion into the primary headache market and continued clinical development across neurology, inflammation, and metabolic syndrome. electroCore has initiated a U.S. commercial registry, working with expert headache centers to distribute up to 1,200 gammaCore units to patients free for the first two months. In Europe the gammaCore nVNS technology has received CE marks for primary headache, bronchoconstriction, epilepsy, gastric motility disorders and depression and anxiety. The US pivotal trial for headache is finishing and the company plans to submit for a US license thereafter. electroCore is also running a double-blind, sham-controlled trial at the Royal Free Hospital in London in patients with IBS and functional dyspepsia and has conducted proof-of-concept work in gastroparesis. The company describes the nVNS mechanism as activation of specific vagus nerve fibers that release inhibitory neurotransmitters and reduce overexpression of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate.
