Overview

Eliq builds an energy intelligence platform focused on home energy efficiency that helps utilities, banks, smart‑home providers and others interpret energy data, guide efficient usage, and enable upgrades and green financing. The platform is designed to expedite the transition to sustainable home energy use and to make sense of large volumes of energy data. Clients using Eliq’s platform have achieved reported savings of up to 9%; the article also notes households account for roughly 27% of final energy consumption. The company plans to expand its home energy efficiency platform across Europe, accelerate product development, and scale sales and marketing. Eliq was founded in 2016 by Håkan Ludvigson, Joakim Botha Sandnes, Joakim Fischer, Olof Hartelius, and Joakim Ottander. The CEO and co‑founder Håkan Ludvigson has stated a goal to empower 1 billion people to participate in the home energy transition. Eliq provides a software platform that helps utility companies find and retain customers by upgrading communication with end users. Its product enables people to monitor electricity usage and demand patterns by ingesting data from smart meters, connected devices and weather analytics to deliver instant energy insights and promote efficiency. The company raised a €5 million Series A from Inven Capital, Contrarian Ventures and prior backers. The investment brings Eliq’s total funding since launch to €9 million. Eliq plans to use the fresh cash to bring more solutions to market more rapidly and to broaden its geographical reach across Europe. To support expansion it will grow teams in its HQ in Gothenburg and in London. Eliq provides a SaaS-based mobile app for monitoring and optimising electricity use to help customers understand and optimise their energy usage patterns. The platform uses mobile apps, artificial intelligence and seamless integration with energy tech such as solar panels, energy storage, electric vehicles and home automation. The company recently launched its services in France and struck a reseller deal with Canadian IT firm CGI. Eliq plans to use the new capital to expand into the UK by opening offices and to invest further in product development. The Gothenburg-based startup raised €3 million from a syndicate of Swedish angel investors, with the funding structured roughly 90% equity and 10% debt. Following this angel investment, CEO Håkan Ludvigson said the company hopes to raise a Series A round at some point in 2018.
