Emortal offers a platform to organize, protect, preserve and pass on digital memories—photographs, documents, correspondence, videos and interviews—aimed at preventing 'bit-rot' and keeping files accessible only to chosen people. The service uses Google architecture to preserve data indefinitely and is designed for occasional, considered use rather than automatic saving of every photo. Emortal has been in engineering R&D for more than 10 years and is backed by internet pioneer Vint Cerf. The company previously raised $5.7 million from friends and family and is now raising $2.7 million via the U.K.'s Crowdcube crowdfunding platform. It plans to launch in the U.K. and U.S. in Q3 and will charge a flat subscription fee of £4.99 per month. Founder and CEO Colin Culross said the team chose Crowdcube to let thousands of customers invest because the service is designed for all families.
