Emu is a five-person Palo Alto–based startup that has built a messaging client which doubles as a proactive mobile assistant. The app parses message context to surface actions like scheduling calendar events, sharing locations, viewing Yelp ratings, making OpenTable reservations, and showing movie showtimes. It offers driving auto-replies, in-stream dictation, and a “snooze” feature that turns messages into time- or location-based reminders. The team plans to bring contextual suggestions earlier into the compose experience and add features such as in-app ticket purchases. Emu exited Android to focus on iOS development and growing its user base. The company recently exited beta and offers its iOS app as a free download.
