It announced a €21 million Series B to support its next stage of growth and commercial roll‑out. EnginZyme develops a technology platform that assembles and deploys biological factories based on enzymes for the production of chemicals. Its biomimicking, cell-free approach aims to deliver stellar productivity while reducing climate impact and reliance on finite resources. The platform integrates material science, biology, chemistry, computer science (including ML-driven protein engineering) and process engineering. EnginZyme positions this cell-free method as an alternative to fermentation, targeting higher productivity and lower costs. The company is pursuing commercial opportunities in consumer-oriented verticals such as food ingredients and cosmetics as an initial beachhead. It is a KTH research spin-out that has built technology, laboratory capabilities and commercial interactions with leading chemical firms and is supported by an identified founding team. EnginZyme operates a cell-free synthetic biology platform that combines enzymatic cascades with packed-bed reactor principles to merge biological diversity and chemical-industry efficiency. The company aims to enable cost-effective, scalable production of sustainable alternatives to plastics, nylons, rubbers and other synthetics. Since its 2014 founding in Stockholm, EnginZyme has provided R&D services to customers in pharma, food, chemicals and flavors & fragrances while developing its internal production capabilities. The Series A funds will accelerate development of the technology platform and advance the company’s first internal production process to pilot. The company has raised over €10 million in total funding since 2014. Michael Krel of the Sofinnova Industrial Biotech Fund will join EnginZyme’s board as part of the investment.
