Engrade

1327 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA, 90401, United States

Overview

Engrade offers a cloud-based platform and APIs that let schools and districts integrate fragmented learning systems, third-party apps and open educational resources behind a single sign-on. The platform supports curriculum planning, instruction, assessment, evaluation and school-home communications. Engrade grew from a personal gradebook project into a platform with about 6 million users worldwide and adoption in over 40,000 schools. The company says its staff doubled last year and plans to expand headcount further. Financially, Engrade has raised outside funding to support product development and expansion. It intends to build more advanced tools for cross-platform content and student-data management. Engrade is a Santa Monica, Calif.–based developer of online classroom management tools that began with an online gradebook developed in 2003. Around that gradebook the company has built a fully integrated suite to unify tools, data, assessments and curriculum for educators. The platform is accessible via web, mobile and tablet devices. Engrade reports 4.5 million users, including more than 400,000 teachers across all 50 states, and counts the New York City Department of Education, KIPP, North Star Academy and Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools among its users. The company says it will use the capital to expand its academic and outreach teams and to strengthen its suite of tools. Engrade is led by CEO Zach Posner and CTO Bri Holt.
