Enough produces Abunda, a mycoprotein created by fermenting fungi fed on sugars from sustainably sourced grain; the product contains all nine essential amino acids, is high in protein and fibre, and has a neutral flavour suitable for meat, fish and dairy alternatives. The company says Abunda is up to fifteen times more efficient than protein from beef, generates zero-waste, and uses 97% fewer CO2 emissions than beef production. Enough opened a first-of-its-kind protein factory in Sas van Gent, Netherlands, with an initial capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes per year and plans to scale to more than 60,000 tonnes annually. Management positions the factory scale as the equivalent of growing one cow’s worth of protein every two minutes and says the capacity will support customers across the UK and Europe. The company intends to use the new funding to accelerate growth and scale production to become a global leader in sustainable protein. CEO Jim Laird framed the market as a multi-billion dollar opportunity and highlighted the environmental and ethical drivers for non-animal protein adoption. Enough produces Abunda, a mycoprotein fermented from fungi using renewable agricultural feedstocks (including grains) that the company sells B2B as a complete protein with all essential amino acids and high dietary fiber. Its customers and partners include Unilever (in the Vegetarian Butcher line) and Marks & Spencer. The Glasgow-based startup was founded in 2015 as a spin-out from the University of Strathclyde. Enough says it will scale production dramatically, building a first-of-its-kind protein biorefinery in the Netherlands that will start at 10,000 tonnes per year and ramp to more than 1 million tonnes by 2032. The company aims to grow 1 million tonnes of mycoprotein annually by 2032, projecting large livestock displacement and CO2 savings. Financially, Enough has secured a €42M ($51M) Series B and previously raised seed funding from DCVC, a £6.16M Series A, and a €17M Horizon 2020 grant.
