Evertoon is a San Francisco, California-based app that lets users turn stories into 3D animated movies by putting photos onto 3D avatars’ faces and recording dialogue with optional voice filters. The app converts users’ emojis into 3D animations and overlays dialogue to create short movies that can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In beta, the app has been mainly used by content creators—especially those parodying celebrity news and current events—and by movie and television fans to bring fiction to life. The company raised $1.7M in seed funding. Backers included Greylock Discovery Fund, Arena VC, Amino Capital, ChinaRock, and strategic angel investors Ellen Pao, Ali Rosenthal, and Charlie Cheever. Evertoon said it will use the funds to launch the beta and expand operations.
