Overview

Founded in 2024 by Kyle Acierno, Dr. Bruno Santos and Dr. Olivia Borgue and based in Luxembourg, Exobiosphere is developing the Orbital High-Throughput Screening (OHTS) system to run automated experiments in orbit at scale. The OHTS platform is designed to run more than 2,000 simultaneous automated experiments per mission with real-time mirroring to Earth-based control systems, and it automates feeding, cell differentiation, compound dispensing, sample processing, and plate-reader and microscopy readouts. Exobiosphere positions microgravity as accelerating biological processes—such as cellular senescence, immune dysregulation, neuronal development and tumor aggressiveness—enabling disease mechanisms and drug responses that standard in-vitro models may not capture. The company targets applications including complex 3D disease modeling, automated stem cell differentiation, and compound potency testing, and is exploring therapeutic areas such as oncology, ageing, neurodegeneration, radiation response, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. The recent JEI grant will support commercial expansion, team growth, international business development and the scale-up of its proprietary orbital screening capabilities.
