Firefly Learning offers a cloud-based teaching and learning support platform that lets teachers set homework, track pupil progress, provide feedback and share resources, while giving students and parents a central hub to access assignments and timetables. The platform has mobile and desktop apps, integrates with Google Apps and Office 365, and exposes an API for education software providers. Firefly charges per student (£7–£12 per pupil per year) and counts 480 paying schools with a reach of around 400,000 pupils; adoption is strongest in U.K. independent schools but growing in the state sector and internationally. The company launched in 2009 and says it has taken revenue and been profitable since launch. New funding will be used to accelerate growth in the U.K. and abroad, expand operations in Australia, double headcount from about 50 employees, and invest in sales, marketing and R&D to develop the platform further.
