Overview

Floatech is a Madrid-based spin-off from the IMDEA Materials Institute focused on replacing conventional graphite anodes with its Si⋮Coil 100 % silicon alternative manufactured through a patented FCCVD process. The technology, originating from an ERC research project, is designed to boost energy density and reduce Europe’s dependence on imported critical materials. The company inaugurated its first silicon anode manufacturing facility in 2025 and intends to build an advanced megafactory by 2029, initially targeting the electronics sector and later supplying electric-vehicle gigafactories from 2030. Floatech’s industrialisation is being accelerated through participation in the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator programme. Financially, the startup has previously closed a seed round backed by Grow Venture Partners, Big Sur Ventures, Suma Capital and Banco Sabadell, alongside support from CDTI’s INNVIERTE programme. Its latest non-dilutive award of €2.5 million and the prospect of up to €10 million in additional EIC investment position the company to scale production and deepen collaborations with OEMs.
