FLUD is a mobile news reader that aggregates curated feeds on the iPhone and iPad with a sleek UI and a scrubber for quick navigation. The app initially offers 25 curated feeds and allows users to add unlimited custom feeds that auto-populate pages. The team has been working part-time since launching in August 2010 and will use the new funding to hire engineering talent and move to full-time development. FLUD is reducing reliance on RSS by building content partnerships with publishers and is developing peer-to-peer social features and location-based services for hyper-local, real-time news. The company is nearing one million users. With the capital the team plans to become device- and platform-agnostic and expects to launch an Android version within weeks.
