Flyby builds a consumer messaging app that allows users to scan real-world objects and attach text or recorded videos that others can unlock by scanning the same object. The app leverages image-recognition technology developed as part of Google’s Project Tango and Flyby Media is the vision-based software partner for that project. Flyby’s team is about 20 people split between New York and Palo Alto, and Mihir Shah serves as CEO. The company is working on an Android version and plans to offer its IP as an SDK for other app developers. Flyby has pursued consumer engagement tactics, including a launch partnership with model Genevieve Morton, while also discussing brand/CPG use cases and SDK distribution.
