Freya Cultivation Systems

1 Siltnamiu st, Sausine, Kaunas, Kauno Apskritis, 54312, Lithuania

Overview

Freya builds the Aeroframe, a commercial greenhouse plant-growing system that leverages three-dimensional growing surfaces and proprietary titanium ultrasonic irrigators to convert nutrient solutions into a fine mist. The Aeroframe is designed to double usable cultivation area versus floor area and, according to the company, can deliver up to double yields and substantially reduce per-plant costs—allowing growers to triple profits. Freya was founded in 2018 by Gediminas Kudirka, PhD in agronomy, who has specialized in fog-based cultivation since that year. The startup has completed several pilot projects and its technology is being used to cultivate tomatoes in a World Bank–funded project in Djibouti and by a biotech company in South Africa; it is also being tested by a space agency. Freya recently secured a €500,000 Seed investment and plans to use funding to build a demonstrator greenhouse and further develop and automate the system, including advanced seeding and harvesting technologies. The company aims to establish a bottom-up innovation ecosystem for Lithuania's Controlled Environment Agriculture and showcase benefits to smart farm operators in Central and Western Europe, the USA, Canada, and Japan.
