Fuel 3D

Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil

Overview

Fuel 3D develops a market-leading 3D scanning platform born out of Oxford University, with applications across biomedical and various retail sectors. Its core technology rapidly and accurately captures and analyses texture, colour, shape and volume data, making it well suited for organic subjects and human-form applications. The company is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in 3D measurement to provide cost-effective, fast and accurate 3D image capture and data. The funding will enable Fuel 3D to expand and develop its products across two main verticals. Management has said the financing will support commercialization efforts and rapid progress over the coming year. Parkwalk noted recent changes in behaviour post COVID-19 make many of the company's products even more compelling for pharmaceutical and wearables markets. Fuel 3D offers a handheld 3D scanner that captures and stitches 3D images for consumers and prosumers. The company ran a crowdfunding campaign that closed at $325,343 from 437 backers, well above its $75,000 goal. Reward tiers included early-bird beta production units at $750 (shipping April 2014) and first production batch units at $990 (shipping July 2014). The most popular rewards bundled a license to Uformia’s MeshUp software for image stitching. Fuel 3D says it intends to bring point-and-shoot 3D imaging to the masses and expects product availability by next year. The campaign focused on hardware plus software workflow adoption rather than equity financing.
