Fusion Engineering develops a flight controller for multirotor drones that it describes as the "brain" inside every drone. The company’s controllers use unique algorithms that let drones respond faster to disturbances; wind tunnel tests showed a 7x smaller deflection versus current technology. Fusion is positioning the product for commercial drone applications such as last-mile delivery, urban drone shows, and maintenance at hard-to-reach locations. It is collaborating with the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) to develop a drone for autonomous maintenance of offshore wind turbines and has partnered with three commercial drone manufacturers for international proof-of-concept projects. The founders, TU Delft alumni Robert Crone and Mara Bos, launched the company in 2017 and it is an ESA BIC Noordwijk alumnus. The startup aims to bring the technology from academic promise to commercial viability and begin scaling.
