Overview
Gelmetix, founded in 2012 as Gelexir Healthcare and spun out from the University of Manchester, develops polymer microgels as minimally invasive treatments for bone conditions. Its lead product is an injectable microgel for chronic lower back pain delivered into the vertebral core. The company is also developing gels targeting small joint and knee osteoarthritis. Recent funding will support completion of preparations for the commercial launch of the lower back product and preclinical development of the other gels. Founding research came from professors Tony Freemont and Brian Saunders at the University of Manchester.
