Overview
GetSetUp is a social and interactive learning platform focused on adults aged 55 and older. The platform teaches classes via a custom-built interactive video product in English, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin. It serves over four million older adults across 160 countries. GetSetUp aims to improve health, wellness, knowledge and social connection while creating economic opportunities through jobs and reskilling. The company raised $10 million in new funding to improve technology and meet the needs of seniors globally, according to co-founder Deval Delivala. GetSetUp is a social learning and community platform for older adults that uses a live, interactive peer-to-peer teaching model. The platform offers more than 150 classes across professional development, technology, health, wellness, hobbies, and casual social hours. Classes are led by trained expert guides—many holding graduate and master’s degrees—and by older adults, including many former teachers. Since launching in early 2020, the site has run more than 6,000 live sessions and more than 3,200 classes taught by older adults. The company plans to use new funding to accelerate continued growth and further develop its platform; it was founded in 2019 by Lawrence Kosick and Neil DSouza. Getsetup runs live, one-hour Zoom classes that connect seniors with peer instructors—retired teachers and professionals—who follow scaffolded lesson plans to teach digital tools. The company offers about 50 classes, including courses on e-commerce (Etsy, Shopify), professional marketing (LinkedIn, MailChimp) and website building (Squarespace, Wix). Classes cost $60–$150 and guides earn $25 per hour; Getsetup also charges software companies (e.g., Copper CRM, Healthcare.com, Ripple Health, Zendesk) to onboard customers. Since launching in August 2019 the platform has served more than 1,500 students and now has eight full-time staff; the majority of current users are aged 65–80. The company shifted offerings during COVID-19 to free classes on urgent topics (Medicare enrollment, home exercise, delivery services, video chat) and has explored reaching other demographics. Getsetup has partnerships to support educators—working with The Learning Accelerator to teach tools like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and Zoom to school staff.
