Gigwalk
539 Bryant Street, Suite 401, San Francisco, CA, 94107, United States
Overview
Gigwalk operates a local-visibility software platform that helps consumer brands and retailers detect and fix in-store execution, merchandising, and distribution issues. The platform leverages an on-demand network of mobile-enabled independent contractors ("Gigwalkers") who perform tasks and deliver real-time on-the-ground visibility. Since launching in 2011, Gigwalk's network has surpassed 500,000 Gigwalkers who have completed more than 4 million Gigs across North America. Customers named in the articles include Frito Lay, Microsoft, Reckitt Benckiser, and 7-Eleven. The company is based in San Francisco and is backed by investors including August Capital, Harrison Metal, SoftTech and others. Recent funding will be used to further develop and scale the software platform, expand partnerships with consumer brands and retailers, and support company growth and hiring. Gigwalk operates a mobile marketplace that delivers short, location-based “gigs” (mystery shopping, store audits, field photography, etc.) to users’ phones and pays workers via PayPal. Businesses post gigs through Gigwalk.com and tasks are assigned to nearby users, who have completed over 190,000 jobs on the platform. The company reports about 200,000 active workers, with participants in all 50 U.S. states and recent expansion into Canada, and individuals have earned up to $14,000 on Gigwalk since 2011. Gigwalk has run large engagements for customers including eBay, Microsoft (Bing), Chegg, and BMW, and recently launched a Bing photo-capture program of over 100,000 gigs in 3,500 cities. Product and roadmap priorities include extending the marketplace and mobile technology and building an algorithm to better match Gigwalkers with relevant gigs. Leadership changes include Bob Bahramipour named CEO and cofounder Matt Crampton expanding his role to CTO and Head of Product. Gigwalk operates an iPhone app that instantly links businesses with a distributed community of Gigwalkers who complete paid, on-location tasks to collect real-world data. Clients span Fortune 500 companies and local businesses across mapping, real estate, retail, consumer research and other industries; TomTom is cited as a customer that used Gigwalk for map-data verification. Gigs range from $3 to $90 and are pushed to workers by proprietary algorithms that match tasks to profile, location and past performance. Gigwalk reports a 93 percent success rate in accurately capturing data and says Gigwalkers can earn as much as $1,600 per month. The company emerged from a six-month private beta and is active in seven metropolitan areas with plans to expand to more cities. Gigwalk is based in Mountain View, California and is led by CEO and co-founder Ariel Seidman. The company announced $1.7M in seed funding to support its public launch.
