Glossier
233 Spring Street, East 10th Floor, New York, 10013, United States
Overview
Glossier launched in 2014 as a direct-to-consumer beauty brand that grew into an influential 'it-girl' label and reached unicorn status by 2019. After rapid expansion plans — including ambitions for dozens of stores — the company scaled back and now operates about 12 physical stores. It faced setbacks from product reformulations and strategic missteps, leading to layoffs in 2022 and executive turnover, including founder Emily Weiss stepping down from the CEO role in 2022 and later departing the brand in 2025. Under subsequent leadership Glossier pursued wholesale distribution (including a first deal with Sephora) and reorganized its team; Colin Walsh became CEO in September of last year to continue a turnaround. The company reports being more profitable than before, and its most recent financing is a $45 million revolving credit facility secured in June 2026 to support its next phase of growth.
