Goldbelly

27 Union Square W #500, New York, 10003, United States

Overview

Goldbelly, led by founder and CEO Joe Ariel, is a NYC-based platform for national food e-commerce that connects people with their favorite foods, restaurants and experiences. The platform features a curated selection of over 10,000 regional, small-batch foods. The company raised $100M in a Series C to support growth. It intends to use the funds to scale the technology and operations of the platform, accelerate onboarding of new chef and restaurant partners, and launch new content initiatives. Goldbelly also announced two executive hires: Cristina Miller as Chief Operating Officer and Ranjith Roy as Chief Financial Officer, both reporting to Joe Ariel. Goldbelly is a NYC-based online marketplace that curates and ships regional and local food from iconic makers to consumers across the country. Led by founder and CEO Joe Ariel, the company operates a proprietary technology platform that manages e-commerce operations and logistics for 350 partner food makers. Its roster includes well-known vendors such as Milk Bar, Russ & Daughters, Gino’s East, Lou Malnati’s, Pat’s King Of Steaks, Prince’s Hot Chicken, Primanti Brothers, Prantl’s Bakery, Salt Lick and Louie Mueller BBQ. The company plans to use the newly raised funds to expand its technology and operations teams at its newly opened New York City headquarters. As part of the transaction, restaurateur Danny Meyer will join Goldbelly’s advisory board. Goldbely operates a marketplace that ships specialty items from popular restaurants across the United States to customers in all 50 states. The platform works with roughly 300 food partners and approves only about 3% of merchant applicants. Within the past year the company facilitated more than 200,000 orders, representing a 200% year-over-year increase in customers. Many partners previously did not ship their signature items, allowing Goldbely to offer unique, city-specific foods at a premium price to consumers nationwide. Examples in the coverage illustrate higher per-item pricing that includes shipping, positioning the service as an occasional treat rather than an everyday meal option. The company plans to use the new funding to expand its operations and technology teams in San Francisco and New York. Goldbely ships iconic regional dishes (for example, Skyline chili and Lou Malnati’s deep dish) from local establishments to customers nationwide. The company sources food from small shops and artisans and fulfills orders across the U.S. Goldbely launched via Y Combinator in February and operates from a San Francisco headquarters. It recently closed a $3 million seed funding round led by Intel Capital and says the new cash will be used to expand operations nationwide. CEO Joe Ariel says the company is creating an opportunity for local food purveyors to reach a national audience and is using technology to empower small shops and artisans. TechCrunch visited Goldbely’s San Francisco HQ and filmed a segment demonstrating the service.
