Grain is a fully remote, four-year-old startup that captures video snippets of online meetings to make important moments easy to share, search, and save. Built expressly atop Zoom, Grain lets users create clips ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, transcribe content, enable closed captions, trim highlights, and stitch clips into reels for summary highlights. The company charges $19 per user per month, says it has thousands of customers including Zapier, and employs 27 people around the globe. Grain is expanding its product toward shared libraries of insights that act as a "video meeting system of record," with integrations to platforms like Slack and Salesforce to lock in workflows. Leadership says the product is platform-agnostic and the company is working to reduce dependence on Zoom while using Zoom as a strong user-acquisition channel. Grain recently acquired PingPong (terms undisclosed) and brought PingPong’s founder Jeff Whitlock on as head of operations as it scales amid competition from rivals like Debrief, Descript, and Perfect Recall. Grain, founded in 2018 in San Francisco, builds a product that captures content from Zoom calls to create shareable video clips and highlight reels. Clips range from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, can be transcribed, support closed captions, trimmed after recording, and can be strung into unlimited-length reels. Each clip gets a unique URL and can be shared across Twitter, Discord, Notion, Slack and iMessage. The company targets companies and schools that will pay on a per-seat basis and is coming out of beta with an 11-person team. Founders Mike and Jake Adams drew on experience from their prior startup MissionU when designing Grain. Grain also plans to integrate with additional platforms beyond Zoom as it scales.
