Overview

GreatHorn provides a 100 percent cloud-native email security threat detection and response platform that safeguards organizations before, during, and after email attacks. The platform combines an industry-leading threat detection engine with in-the-moment user education and comprehensive incident response capabilities. It performs inline pre-inbox analysis, time-of-delivery checks, and post-delivery continuous analysis and incident response to defend against business email compromise, credential theft attempts, brand spoofing, malware, ransomware, and advanced social engineering-based phishing attacks. GreatHorn positions itself as an innovation leader in the email security space and says its product frees security teams from time-consuming email security management while enabling faster response to genuine threats. The company reports a third consecutive year of triple-digit revenue growth and rapid expansion into the enterprise market. GreatHorn plans to continue expanding product leadership and accelerating penetration into the enterprise market. GreatHorn is a cloud-native cybersecurity company that protects cloud communications platforms using machine learning and automated response. Its flagship Inbound Email Security platform can automatically detect and remediate targeted social engineering attacks across systems like Google Apps and Office 365 without the routing risks of traditional solutions. The company also offers Messaging Security for ChatOps platforms such as Slack to identify imposter apps and bots, respond to credential loss, and enforce content policies across channels. GreatHorn’s protections are powered by a proprietary dataset built from hundreds of millions of uniquely analyzed threats, which the company says gives it the intelligence and precision to prevent attacks from becoming breaches. Management projects that automation can reduce an enterprise security team’s phishing investigation workload by more than 300 hours per week. Following a $6.3M Series A, the company plans to use the capital to meet rising customer demand, expand R&D and accelerate sales and marketing. GreatHorn has been recognized as a finalist in the 2017 RSAC Innovation Sandbox competition and was named in Gartner’s May 2017 “Cool Vendors in Cloud Security 2017” report. GreatHorn builds a cloud security platform designed to stop highly targeted phishing attacks in enterprise email. Its solution is integrated directly into core email platforms and can be natively integrated into Office 365 via the Azure Marketplace and O365 APIs, avoiding email delays during incidents. The company emphasizes “active defense,” removing attacks where and when they happen rather than relying on changing user behavior. GreatHorn charges on a per-mailbox, per-month basis. The startup came together last year in Belmont, Massachusetts, and is led by CEO Kevin O’Brien and cofounder Ray Wallace. Leadership experience includes O’Brien’s prior role as product marketing director at CloudLock. The team states ambitions to expand beyond email security as cloud adoption and related exploits grow.
